Wealth op Nations.—Machinery working well and crushing good. The yield of amalgam from a temporary cleaning of the plates for last week was 372 ozs, and the week previous 320. The present weeks crushing is not expected to produce quite so much, as it is necessary to exercise more than the usual care Vvith the machinery during the prevailing frost. : " ~
.:Keep it Dark.—Stone taken from the face 'shows gold plainly, and the prospects of the claim are promising..
Energetic.—-"Work, at the machine site is still progressing favorably, notwithstanding disadvantages' of frost and ice. :. United' Band Hope.:—The reef at ~ .top low level is well defined) and about eight feet thick. It is intended to drive along the line of reef for ,a distance of 100 feet, when its true character will be fairly ascertained. Anderson's.—The new entrance the tunnel and tramway is now completed, the approaches to the paddock on the incline are beiug formed, and the work of lowering the wheel is vigorously proceeding. The driving in the tunnel continues hard.
Fiery. Ceoss. —In this claim, as also in the Just in Time and other adjacent claims, the work of opening up is progressing with the usual vigor. Golden Fleece. —The shareholders have decided to at once commence operations. Caledonian. —A breakage in the pumping gear caused several days' suspension of work, but sinking has been again resumed.
No 2 South.—The main reef has " been cut in the 40-feet level, 15 feetfrom the shaft. The width of the stone is two feet six inches, slightly underlying to the eastward, containing very good coarse gold. Work has been resumed at the end of the main level, and good stone is being brought to grass. There are 350 tons of stone raised. The construction of water-race is drawing near to completion. Larry's Creek.—The sinking of the shaft continues to be about the same; — through alluvial ground. The distance attained' is 15 feet. The shaft is quite dry, and everything progressing satisfactorily. [iTELL ARGUS.] Ltell Cheek. —The leader recently struck is in the uprise, 30 feet from the floor of the drive, aud MO feet from the mouth of the tunnel. Excelsior. —Driving continues exceedingly hard. i.. Central. —The government surveyor is now employed on survey of Maruia and Break o' Day leaders, to trace their course through the Central company's "ground,", and to mark out entrance for tunnel to cut the leaders.
