BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday night last. Present—The Mayor, Crs Munson, Blacklock, Sheahan, and Whyte. Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmedCORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were read : From B. Cunningham, complaining that his tender had not been accepted. Proposed by Cr Munson, " That the letter be received and the writer informed that the tender of Mr Canhad been accepted." Seconded by Cr Blacklock and carried.

From S. Riley, protesting against section 182, being entered in valuation as belonging to Mr John Hughes, lieceived.

From Mr A. D. Dobson, resquesting permission to put down survey posts iu Pahnerston street. Received.

From Under-Secretary of Public Works, stating that reply to Council's memorial, ra Coal Reserve, would be forwarded upon receipt of Superintendent of kelson's report ou same. Received"

GENERAL BUSINESS. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Organ, G-eorge Wliite's application was held over for consideration until next meeting. The tender of W. Hauna, for supply of gravel at 4s 6d per yard was accepted.

It was proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Blatddock, "and carried, "That the first gravel delivered be placed at the boat steps. Proposed by Cr. Organ, seconded by the Mayor, and carried, " That the valuation of the valuer ; Mr Murdoch, be received."

Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Whyte, and carried unanimously " That the statement of proposed receipts and expenditure for curreut vear be received."

Proposed by Cr. Whyte, seconded by Cr. Organ, and carried, " That notices be given of the Council's intention to strike a rate of one shilling in the pouud on the 3rd July, for twelve months from that date. Cr. Job L. Munson rose and offered to arrange for printing the notices at the Buller News office. The matter was left to the ordering of the Mayor. NOTICES OP MOTION. By Cr. Sheahau, " That in tlio opinion of the Council the action of the Provincial Secretary in hastily convening a public meeting without giving intimation of his intention to propose a motion adverse to the wishes of the Borough Council, as affecting the Control of the Westport Colliery Reserve, was ill-advised, and calculated to mischievously affect the action already taken by the Borough Council. And the Council resolves to use every constitutional means to obtaiu a Crowm grant of the Reserve, and the right of future control."
