In the Nelson Provincial Council the motion by Mr Ivess for leavo to bring in a bill to repeal " The Goldfields District Boards Act," was strenuously opposed by Mr Donne. Leave being given, the matter was not allowed to be further proceeded with. The Bill for amending the latter Act to cover the special circumstances of the Borough of Westport passed through all its stages. The item £IOOO for reconstruction of Nile bridge Charleston, was carried on a motion by Mr Donne. An amendment for £SOO subsidy for the Pourmile Water race Charleston was carried. Notice of motion was also given by the same gentleman for a special allotment of £2OOO out of the proposed loan for the same object. The Estimates haviugpassed through committee, it is expected the business will be brought to a close by the middle of the ensuing week. Notice of motion has been given by the member for Charleston for Monday for a recommittal of the Estimates to abolish the blocking of certain votes passed under the heads " Wardens " and " Wardens Clerk." The Times has published the following telegram from Governor Fergusson's private secretary-, dated Auckland:—"l am directed by the Governor to inform you that the paragraph appearing in the Independent of May 29th, quoted from the Argus of May 11th, and stating that his Excellency has started the idea that all correspondence between the Governments of the several colonies should come direct from and to the Governors of the Colonics, and not through their responsible advisers, has no foundation in fact."
