MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.
One of the late boys, while reading a chapter in Genesis, paused to ask his mother whether the boys in olden times used to do their sums on the ground ? It was discovered that he had been reading the passage, " And the sons of men multiplied on the face of the earth." Going through some newspapers to find local news reminds us of the story of the landlady who, when a boarder had passed up his cup the sixth time, remarked that he. must bo fond of coffee. '« Yes," was the reply, "or I should not drink so much water to get a little bit of coffee." A colony of wasps bnilt their nests a few weeks ago in a church offensively near the choir. The sexton being appealed to, he said: "I'll fix the rascals !" and proceeded to burn the wasps out. The next day, while gazing at the ruins of the church, the sexton was heard to remark: " I knew I could fii the rascals ; but I'm sorry the church went along with 'em incidentally." A modern philosopher thinks it a mistake to suppose women have stronger attachments than men. A man is often attached to an old hat; " but," he asks, " who ever heard of a woman being attached to an old bonnet ?"
The following ambiguous paragraph appeared in an Edinburgh paper : " \\ r e regret to find that the announcement of the death of Mr W. is a malicious fabrication.
