The House of Representatives, on the 26th September, 1572, resolved, " That, in the opinion of this House, rewards to the extent of in each Island should be offered for the discovery of new goldfields on specific terms and conditions to bo notified by the Government, and the House pledges itself to make good the same." The conditions under which rewards will he given for the discovery of new goldfields till 31st December, lS7i, so far as applicable to the Middle Inland, are as follows :—■ (a.) The newly discovered gold held must bo distant at least ten miles from tho nearest gold workings. (b.) No reward shall exceed £2OOO.

(e.) Rewards, not exceeding in the whole £SOOO, will be given in the following scale:—£2ooo if the field yields 20,000 ounces before 31st December, 1874. £IOOO if it yields 10,000 ounces before that date. The words " nearest gold workings " shall mean gold workings recognised as such, on which miners are actually employed in searching for gold. In all probability at the next sitting of the House, the time during which rewards will be given will be extended for another year, if it can be shown that active prospecting is in contemplation. *
