(feom otjb own cobbespondent.) GREAT FLOODS AT GREYMOUTH. SEVERE DAMAGE TO ROADS AND RAILWAY WORKS. GREYMOUTH. April 7. Fearful floods here yesterday. It rained incessantly for 40 hours, and the whole town was inundated. The stone protective works stood the severe test, and saved the town from utter destruction. It was the highest flsod yet known in Greyuaouth. Kesidents in lower part of town were all removed to places of,safety. Several cottages were swept to sea, but no other losses have occurred in town except damage to gardens and fences. Several landslips have happened on the Grey Valley road, and severe damage ensued to roads and railway works.

LYELL. April 8. In consequence of the flooded rivers the chairman, Mr Broad, was not able to attend on Monday the advertised time for the nomination of members for the District Board. A public meeting was held last evening for the purpose of nominating members. Eleven were proposed. Messrs Ryan, Fennel, Dempsey, Carrol, Leslie, and Beck had the show of hands. A poll was demanded on behalf of Mr Nevin. The Chairman will recommend that the Superintendent gazette the six that poll most on the day of election.
