BULLER ROAD CONTRACT.
( To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sib, —My attention was drawn to a communication of Mr W. Pell, which appeared in a recent issue of the Buller News, accusing me of knowingly concealing the true measurement of sections 2, 3, and 4, of the Buller road between Christie's and Old Ilughie's, for purposes which Mr Pelt imagines already accomplished. I must iuform Mr Pell and the public (in whom he evidently has a new born interest) that I did not measure those sections, and that Mr Peil and everyone of the tenderers had as good an opportunity of knowing the correct measurement as I had and probably knew it much better if the truth was. told. I have nothing to ofFer with regard to Mr Pell's hypocritical defence of G-overn-employees any further than to remark that I would rather be one of the objects than the author of such miserable nonsense. To conclude, I would advise Mr Pell to post himself a little better in the truth of these matters before he again makes an exhibition of himself by parading his disappointment in a newspaper. I am, &c„ James Holgate. March 23th, 1874.
