tions of the country were friendly, ami that her Ministers would endeavour to maintain those , relations. The marriage of the Duke of Edinburgh would lead to a pledge of friendship between two great Powers. She trusted that the Ashantee negotiations would be settled satisfactorily. While regretting the sad ' s f ato of Bengal through famine, she said the Viceroy had beon instructed to spare no expense to mitigate the calamity. The Speech announces measures for simplifying the transfer of laud, the extension to Ireland of re-arrangement of judicature effected last session, and reform in proeeedure in appeals in Scotland. A Royal Commission has been appointed to consider Acts relative to masters and servants. A bill is to bo introduced to amend the Licensing Act. The Government will direct attention to the laws of Friendly and Provident Societies. In the Lords, the Marquh of Salisbury announced that the famine oan amounted to ten millions. It is intended to inquire into the conduct of Dr Keneally in the late Tichborne trial. Disrneli intends to shortly release the Fenian prisoners. March 21. Mr Butt moved as amendment to address iu reply to Queen's speech, "That the House legislate iu favor of Irish self-Government." This was rejected by 314 to 50. General Wolseley has arrived. Wool sales closed; 164,034 bales catalogued ; 75,000 disposed of. Home buyers bought reluctautly to keep mills going. Prices closed easier. 240,000 bales remain until next sales. There is an apprehension of money becoming dearer. Wheat dropping in price owing to large expected arrivals from Adelaide ; 67s to GBs per quarter.

Liverpool quotat'Ou telegraphed March sixth :—l2s sd, to 12s 7d for average wool (?) Quiet sales for home consumption at 15 cents ; shippers offering 11 cents. New York, March 4. Wheat dull at 1 dollar 65 cents, to 1 dollar 85 cents ; hides, dry, 23 \ to 24 ; wool, steady ; pulled, 39 to 45 ; spring, fine, 25 to 35 cents.
