Tho Macgregor arrived on the 25th from San Francisco. The pilot said he could take both steamers to sea by the Star of the South leading the way. The Macgregor struck on a shoal inside the reef. The Tartar tried to tow her off, and parted with all her best hawsers. Ninety tons of cargo was then taken out to lighten her for the night's tide. The Tartar then again made fast and for three hours tried to tow off the Macgregor, but without avail. It was thought advisable to remove more cargo and make another trial in the daylight, but that was agaiu unsuccessful. It was then considered inexpedient to make any further trial until the steamer was thoroughly lightened forward. The mails and passengers were transhipped to the Tartar. Captain Graiuger is confident that upon removing the coals aud cargo the ship will float off. The sole blame of the mishap is attributable to the pilot, as the entrance is perfectly safe. ALEXANDRA.
