BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At the weekly meeting on AVednesday evening last, present the Mayor and Crs. Sheahan, Blacklock, Whytc, Munson, Thorpe, Suistcd, and Organ, the following business was transacted : CORREI'OXDEXCK. From residents in Rintoul Street calling attention to the state of the. road.—Referred to the Public Works Committee with power to act. SECTIONS. The report of the Sections Committee recommended that a section should be granted Mrs Mills in lieu of allotment formerly held by her in Freeman street. On the motion of Cr. Organ the report was adopted and the Town Clerk instructed to allot the applicant any vacant,' section between Adderley street and Palmerst'Mi street. POUXO. Further consideration of this matter was deferred until next meeting of the Council. EECUK.VTIOX GHOUXB. Further consideration of the Committee's report was postponed sine die. FINANCE. The Finance Committee reported that a furthor advance by the Bank of New Zealand had been negociated. PUBLIC WOIiKS. Proposed by Cr. Whyte, seconded, by the Mayor, and carried, Avitli the acquiescence of all members present except Cr. Organ, "That the sum of Four hundred pounds be obtained from the Bank of New Zealand to complete works proposed by the Council in Palmerston and Wakefield streets, such sum to be a charge against first rate to be made, or other revenue of the Borough. Proposed by Cr. Whyte, .seconded by Cr. Sheahan, and carried, "That standing order No. 58 be suspended in older to allow the Council to order on works proposed in Palmerston' and Wakefield streets. Such clause of
Section XII, Municipal Act, being as follows . —"All plans and specifications for any public work shall bo laid before the Council at least six days prior to the same being considered and ordered upon, and be open for inspection by any ratepayer duriug that time." Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Why to, and carried unanimously, " That tenders be called for works in Palmerstou and Wakefield streets as per plan and specifications prepared by the Provincial Engineer, and previously approved of by the Council. Terms of payment, 75 per cent as the works proceed, and the balance on completion of contract. Tenders to close on Saturday the 14tli instant."
INSPECTOR OP NUISANCES. Copies of correspondence between Sub-Inspector Kiely and Inspector Shallcrass, relative to tlie appointment of Constable Ibbitson as Inspector of nuisances, were read, and on the motion of Cr. Thorpe, seconded by Cr. Organ, it was resolved, " That the Council avail themselves of the services of Constable Ibbitson as temporary. Inspector of Nuisances for the Borough at the remuneration previously fixed, namely £5 per quarter, and that he be requested to commence duties forthwith.
ADVEETISINO. On the motion of Cr. Sheahan, seconded by Cr. Suisted, it was resolved that tenders be advertised for works in Palmerston street for three insertions only. The meeting then adjourned.
