VIA. CABIE, LONDON DATES TO THE 7th FEBRUARY. AUCKLAND. February 17. The Hero has arrived from Sydney. LONDON. February 7. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburg and several members of the Russian Court have arrived at Moscow. The German Parliament has been opened. The opening speech expressed confidence in the efforts of the great European powers to maintain peace. Alderman Cotton, Messrs Hubbard, and Twils, conservative members, and Hon. Goshen, have been returned for London. Two conservatives have been returned for Westmister. For the electorate of Chelsea, Marylebone, South wark, and Lower Hamlets Messrs Ayerton, Fawell, Jacob, and Bright defeated Thomas and Hughes. Mr Roebuck has been elected for Sheffield. The Marquis of Hartingdon is elected for Radnor. Four hundred and thirty members have been returned. The Liberals ousted twenty-four Conservatives, and elected 229 Liberals. The latter gain twentyseven seats, but the Conservatives have secured seventy-one seats from the Liberals.
It is asserted that Gladstone has resigned.
