IN EXPLANATION.
(To the Editor of the Westport times.) Stn,—lt is only just to Mr O'Conor and his friends who ask so persistently and jealously why his name has not been placed on the Kynnersley Memorial Committee, to reprint the following from the Greymouth Mail:—" Our readers may remember the insult and abuse which the sick man had to submit to from the hand of a Westport bully, because he dared to expose a nefarious transaction likely to prove detrimental to the interests of the inhabitants of that town, and Mr Kynnersley's action in that matter was thoroughly consistent with every other in his active and energetic public career."
A sense of propriety alone prevented Mr E. J. O'Conor's name from bet lg added to the Committee, and a feeling of delicacy might have enduced that gentleman and his friends to suffer the present mournful proceedings to be carried out in peace and harmony. One of t3e People.
