Sullivan, the Nelson murderer, who turned Queen's evidence, is on board the Mikado. lie is pardoned by the Government, and is to be landed in California. The Athenanim subscribers have resolved by 252 to 2-42, that the reading room be opened for four hours on Sunday afternoons. The whole matter is to be left in the hands of the Committee, but it is not thought that, with such a small majority, the resolution will be carried out. February 14. The Mongol brings 324 passengers. She will be fumigated to-day, both passengers aud cargo ! ! The fault of diseaso lies with the clearing officers. Thirteen cases were sent out of the depot at Plymouth the day before the Mongol's passengers came on board, and the day after they were shipped two families were sent ashore, being ill from fever. WELLINGTON. February 12. This afternoon the police captured on board the Mikabo George Maurice Drurnmond, the absconding manager of the Provincial and Suburban Bank at Eichmond, Melbourne. He had £470 in gold on his person. The total value of imports of the Colony for the quarter ending the 31st December was £1,782,605, and for corresponding period in 1872, £1,498,193. The comparative velue of imports for the Colony for 1872 was £5,142,751; and for l?st year, £6,462,981. The value of exports for the Colony for 1872 was £5,190,665, and for last year, £5,610,371. February 13. The Premier was passenger by the the Mikado yesterday for Auckland.
No members met in Parliament yesterday. GEAHAMSTOWN. February 12. The Eailway Committee have appointed sub-committee to procure data to lay before the Premier to induce him to place the Thames Valley line upon the next schedule of Public Works. A movement has also been organised to endeavor to obtain Government assistance towards meeting the expense of deep drainage for mines.
