RECREATION GROUND.
(To the Editor of the Westport times.) Snt, —I observe by your report of the proceedings of the Westport Borough Council that theylmve decided by a large majority to set apart the most valuable portion of their estate for Recreation purppses, It is quite right that ground should be allotted for this purpose, but I agree with Cr. Organ that the Council cannot afford to part with the block referred to. If ever the town extends beyond its present limits it will be in that direction, so that a very large revenue would he derived from this land which the Council purposes to thus wantonly give away. Even at the present time this land would let for a large sum. There is plenty of ground on the other portion of the Municipal reserves quite available enough for this purpose, and I hope the Council will again consider the matter before finally parting with this source of revenue. By the way, I noticed that the members of the Committee who made this modest recommendation are members of the Cricket Club, and I cannot help thinking that they have allowed their zeal for " Cricket " to run away with their judgment as councillors. I write in no spirit of personal animus, but simply to draw the attention of the public to what I consider a most unwarrantable proceeding on the part of the Council.—l am, &c, Civis. Westport, Feb. 13, 1874.
