BOROUGH COUNCIL.

At the usual weekly meeting the Mayor and all members of the Council were present. COEKESPONDTONCE. Telegram from Under Secretary to Town Clerk, in reply to letter referring to occupation of section required for approach to Wakefield streot wharf. "No. 407 re your letter of 2nd February.. Please inform me by wire who is going to erect buildings on colliery reserve and by whose authority it is done."

GENERAL BUSINESS. In terms of motion brought forward by Cr. Organ to render Municipal reserves a source of revenue, the SubCommittee intimated that the report thereon would be brought up at the next meeting. The Committee laid on the table a schedule ot proposed pound fees, and charges, and a recommendation that tenders be called for leasing of Section No. 8, eomorising 7 acres, for a term of 5 years. The lessees to erect pound and necessary adjuncts, and undertake duties on certain defined stipulations. On the motion of Cr. Organ, seconded by Cr. Whyte, the report was referred to the Committee for further consideration. WORKS IN PALJIEtISTON AND WAKEFIELD STREETS. The committee reported that interviews had been held with the first tenderer, James Olive, who had declined to make any reduction on his terms, and that the committee had also held consultations with other persons willing to uudertake the work, and had come to the conclusion that the offer of Owen Griffin and party, to do the work for £IOO cash, or £430 deferred payment, was the most eligible. A motion by Cr Suisted, that James Olive's tender should be accepted, lapsed, not being seconded. Cr Organ proposed, and Cr Manson seconded, that James Olive's tender, fo" No 2 section, should be accepted. Price 256 13s. Cr Suisted proposed, as an amendment, and Cr Shoahan seconded, that James Olives' tender for the whole work be accepted. There voted for the amendment, Cr Sheahan and Suisted ; and for the original motion, the Mayor, Crs. Thorpe, Organ, Whyte, Stitt, Blaeklock, and Munson. A second amendment by Cr Thorpe, " That the further consideration of the matter of tenders for making Paimer-ston-street and Wakefield-street, be postponed until the next meeting of the Council, for the purpose of receiving the report of the financial committee, and any further recommendation of the works committee thereupon," was next put to the meeting and carried. Cr Organ being the only dissentient. RECREATION GROUND. The report of the committee recommended that the six blocks bounded by Roebuck, Pa!merston, and Staffordstreets and the river, should be withheld from occupation, until a site for recreation ground had been selected thereon. It was proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Cr Organ, that the recommendation of the committee be not adopted, and that a block often acres be set apart for recreation purposes on the Municipal reserve at the end, and to the east, of Wakefield street. Cr Suisted proposed, as an amendment, seconded by Cr Thorpe, " That the report be adopted." There voted for the amendment, Crs Thorpe, Munson, Suisted, Sheahan, Blaeklock, and Stitt; and for the motion, the Mayor, Crs Organ, and Whyte. The amendment was therefore declared carried.
