EXPOIITS. Per Kennedy, for Greymouth—loo bags oats, D. M'Lean. The Charles Edward, after waiting two or three hours for tho tide, came in on Saturday at 10 a.m., and went up stream to the Wakefield street wharf. She left again - at noon for Nelson. The St. Kilda arrived on Saturday morning from Wanganui, and wailing for the tide of cattle anu sneep- 1 di 'Tjnb—odti'u; as usual, in good order and condition. Her arrival was anxiouslv looked for, as meat supplies were getting low. She left at midnight for Greymouth. On Saturday morning last tho Ceres was dropped down tho river to complete her loading. She anchored off the mouth of the New Channel to await the flood tide, but owing to the wind coming strong from the S.W., had to remain at anchor. The steamer St. Kilda, arriving from Wangonuiathalf flood, took the Ceres in tow, intending to take her to the moorings, but owing to tho strong wind, or some other can e. the tow-line parted, and the Cctes had to anchor again, but much furthoi' to lcow.ird than fo.mcrly, so much so t' at she grounded at half ebb. During the flood tide, the weather being calm, her kedgo was run out ahead, and she floated easily at half ilood, and was taken to tho mooring buoy by tho Harbormaster, where she will complete her loading of white pine logs for Melbourne. She makes no water.
Tho p.s. Wallace arrived fwin Nelson yestprday, waiting for the tide and crossing the hiir at lo.ioa.m. She left at 4p.m. for southern ports. The p.s. Dispatch, from Grey mouth, has gono north to Nelson for repairs. On the trial trip of the screw steamer Otago, recently purchased by Messrs IM'Meekan, Blackwood, and Co., for the New Zealand trade, she made 21* ; &riles in two minutes OSsircr the on the run averaged about eleven knots the whole way. She can now accommodatie'Bo saloon and'l2o steerage passengers, and 700 tons of cargo. She has also sp ce fitted expressly for carrying 26 horses.
