MINING ITEMS.
[INANGAHUA HEEALD.] "We are informed that the Superintendent has declined to cancel the North Star lease, and that the present holders of the lease will now register under the Limited Liabilities Act; and operations will be resumed, the shareholders probably deciding to follow down the reef.
We understand that Mr Malfroy has submitted an offer to the Inangahua Crushing Company, to supply and erect a turbine wheel of the required dimensions to drive fifty head of stampers, for the sum of £6OO. Messrs Moutray and Co., of Nelson, have also offered to supply 6 batteries stamps, and necessary iron work for an overshot wheel, for £2IOO.
The Energetic Company have decided to erect steam machinery in Murray Creek. The offer of the Inangahua Company to crush at 10s per ton on certain conditions being considered not to be sufficiently favourable.
Anderson's battery commenced crushing again on the Company's stone on the 25th ult. The manager contemplates being able to beep it going for about a month, during which time between 400 and 500 tons will pass through the mill. The quality of the stone coming from the mine at the present time has generally a very favorable appearance, and sometimes extraordinarily rich stone is met with, splendid quartz having recently been observed lying among the heap in the paddock.
Stone in the Wealth of Nations is showing marked improvement. The mill is kept constantly going, and therefore a very large amount of quartz must he easily acquired. r ihe Westland Company will crush 150 tons for the Victoria, that quantity of stone being now nearly ready. In the Ajax the Company's battery has been crushing from their own mine during the last week.
The shareholders of the Hit or Miss claim, at Boatman's, are about forming themselves into a company under the Limited Liability Act, and it is intended to resume work in the mine directly after these arrangements have been completed, The Fiery Cross and -lust in Time Companies are about to erect an additional five head of stampers at the machine site, thus increasing their crashing power to fifteen head of GOO cwt each.
The mining manager of the Wealth of Nations reports getting out 634 tons of stone from live different faces, extend-
mg from the North boundary to 200 feet south, all the faces showing gold freely. The thickness of the reef at the Energetic boundary hue on the forty foot level is from ten to twelve feet.
