Per Kennedy from south—l express, order; 1 bap merchandise, Gardner and Sutton ; 2 bars iron, Forsyth and Masters. Tho steamer St. Kilda, arriving early on Sunday morning from VVanganui, discharged a portion of her cattle freight at the South Spit, and left again at 9 the same evening for Greymouth. During the day many visitors fri m Westport went on board to inspect the craft under her now aspect. The improvements made in the St. Kilda since her last visit to these waters have eonvet ted h~r into an almost new boat. She has been lengthened by 24 feet, and now has accommodation for 30 passengers, beside steerage accommodation, the cabin being built on deck, which gives her a roomy poop. The engines have been altered from Lruiiu Li> airecß acting inverted with surface condenser. The boiler has been strengthened and repaired, and the carrying Capacities of the boat have been increased from 91 to 17-1 tons. Her seagoing qualities ae better, and her speed has not been impaired, although no alteration has been made in her rig. She will for the present trade regularly between Wanganui and the ' West Coast. The Wallace left Nelson at 9.30 on Sunday morning for Westport, but probably ran lor shelter at the Spit, in consequence of . strong head winds, as she had not shown up • la f e last evening. Dunedin papers state that on their recent visit to Dunedin, Messrs Martin, Allen and Harrison, on lmhalf of the N.Z.S.S. Company, 'Offered £120,000 for the purchase of Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood, & Co.'s five steamers, viz., Claud Hamilton, Alhion, Alhambra, ' Tarn-ua and Ot-go. The offer was declined by Messrs M'Meckan and Co.'s Dunedin agents, and it is said that several Dunedin merchants have since come to satisfactory terms for the purchase of the steamers in question, and are about to form a limited eomj any for the purpose of purchasing and working them.
