SALE OF HUMAN FLESH AND BLOOD.
[COMMEECIAL ADVEBTISER
Young girls in the San Erancisco market recently brought, one day, 450 dollars, middle-aged women, 200 dols.,' and old women, 100 dols. This sounds rather strange, but in a sale of 22 in the Californian metropolis the other day this is what they brought at auction. They were Chinese women, with delicate feet, and fondness for rats, we suppose ; but we are not informed as tc <fae nativity of the purchasers, and that the latter were scarcely confined to the almond-eyed Johns alone. Who got the money ? Who profits by this trade in the women and girls of the Celestial Kingdom ? Is is not a trifle disgraceful that a city like San Erancisco —boastiug of some of the bravest and most intellectual men and women, and numbers of the best newspapers in the country —should be guilty of permitting such a scandalous proceeding within its jurisdiction ? We are inclined to think this an unusual occurrence; but if such auctions are ordinary affairs, it would be well to have regular quotations in the Californian markets, so that the world may kuow precisely how much flesh and blood sells for in the El Dorado of the west.
