The Charles Edward will not go on to Greymouth as previously advertised, but will tranship into the Murray, duo here tomorrow, and return to Nelson. The reason for this change is that the Charles Edward is leaky, and it is considered advisable to at - once return and put her on the slip. On Saturday afternoon last a discovery of a mishap was opportunely made that, under other circumstances, might have resulted in disastrous conse- • quonces. On opening the after hatches it was seen that some bags of unslaoked lime, part of the cargo for south, were smoking violently, and no time was lost in getting them up and heaving them over the side. The leakage had caused the bags to become wet, and hence the spontaneous combustion.
