The Resident Magistrate's and Warden's Offices will be opened on the 27th, 29th, and 30th of December, and 3rd of January, up to noon each day, and closed on the 25th and 2Gth December, and the Ist and 2nd ox January. TENDERS are required for FELLING TIMBER along the Lyell Road between Christy's and Reefton, an average width of two chains, and the overhanging trees to be felled out •from the sides the whole distance. Tenders to be at per square chain for the whole distance, or any section of it, not less than five miles in extent. All Tenderers must enclose with tenders the sum of Fifty Pounds. If any tenderer refuse to proceed with the work, if required, the above sum will be forfeited. Also two substan* tial sureties in the atnouut of twenty per cent of the value of each contract must be provided by those accepted. Tenderers must name the time within which they propose to complete their work, and all other things being equal, speed will receive preference. Tenders marked " Tender for Felling," and addressed to " The Inspector of Telegraphs Reefton," will be received till noon of Friday, December 26, 1573. The POLICIES are NOT FORFEITABLE by non-payment of premium until the full surrender value has been exhausted; thus, a person having paid for three yeara would not forfeit his policy for 3 years and 125 days after the default of payment; and, again, a person having paid for five years, his policy would remain in force for 5 years and 8G days after said default of payment. It will be thus seen that no person need apprehend being compelled to forfeit his policy by non-payment of premiums owing to temporary embarrassment. The premiums are kept in a separate Trust account, and are invented in Government Debentures. The Chief Agent is now in Westport, and will be happy to give all information.
