Journalism is indeed looking up in Japan. The Mikado has started a dailypaper, and as he announces that he will behead every able-bodied " Jap" who does not subscribe at once, he hopes to work up quite a list of subscribers, and make his paper " pay from the start." Native merchants who do not advertise have their property confiscated. The air to hum on passing a laundry where the girls are at work—" Wring out wild belles!"
