FOOLS RUSH IN WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD.
(To thb Editor of theWestport Times.) Sik, —Nothing shows the weakness of a cause so much as the absence of good and able men being connected therewith; endeavouring with steady ability to carry their object to a successful and peaceful issue. Such seems to be the conspicuous want in regard to returning the " Buller Lion" to the Supermtendental chair. His best supporters are ashamed in their heart of hearts of the deeds of their chief, whom they would fain support without exposing themselves to the ridicule of their betters, Who look compassionately upon their proceedings as actions unworthy of reasonable men. That the Lion's supporters have nothing to say in favour of his conduct as a public man may be gathered from the effusion of " Old Identity " in last Tuesday's issue, who has nothing to say in the Lion's favour except that he is good at roaring. Perhaps rt Old Identity" will be able to explain if the Lion is identical with or any relation to that gentleman whom we are told " goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom ho may devour." If " Old Identity " cannot tell, it may perhaps be for the benefit of the province that the highest opinion ecclesiastical and legal be taken on the matter, that electors may run no risk of getting the very " devil " for Superintendent. It occurs to me that " Old Identity " must have been muddled, not only when he read " An Elector's " letter, but also when he wrote his own. If such is not the case, it would be advisable for his friends to have an eye on him, and have a strait jacket ready at a moment's notice. If the poor man has got no friends the Lion's Westport Committee can scarcely do less in the interests of their chief than do this kindly office for him—at least until the elections are over. I am, &c, An Elector.
