AN EXPLANATION.

(To the Editor oj ilve Westport Times.) Sik, —Having read a letter in the *Weti;;)ort Times of the 17th instant, having reference -to a motion I brought forwatJ ia 'the Borough 'Council, and 'which has apparently led some persons 'to an erroneous conclusion, I beg •to be allowed to give a correct statement of the matter. Certainly I moved that the letter of Messrs Am■brose and others be not received, owing ■to the objectionable spirit in wbich it "was written, and my reasons for doingso I stated previousto bringing the motion forward. At the same time I stated, ; in language as plain as I could make use of, that if parties interested in the' 'block of ground referred to in the letter "would send a petition to the Borough "Couudil'that -I liad no doubt the Coun'cil would give it their early attention. 'I 'trust no one will be any longer Hinder the impression that I am not willing to give every consideration to ■any petition that may be sent to the Borough Councillors ; and with special 'reference to the section holders to 'whom'the letter had reference, I think ■they are as much entitled to-considera-tionas any other holders of sections in Westport, now or at any time previously.—Yours, &c., JOB L. MtJNsos.
