MINISTERIAL PEREGRINATIONS
A return laid upon the table of the House of Representatives " shows all the travelling allowances, residence allowances, house allowances, and other allowances received by Ministers during each of the four years ended 30th June, 1873, and the sources from which such allowances were paid, and, in connection with the travelling allowances, the nature of the service and the period during which it was performed." This return shows that during the financial year 1869-70 the amount of allowances drawn by each Minister was as follows: —Hon W. Fox, travelling allowance, £263 ; hon W. Gisborne, travelling allowances, £43, and rent allowance, £119; hon D. M'Lean, travelling allowance, £583 ; hon I. E. Featherson, mission to Melbourne, £125 ; hon F. D. Bull, travelling allowance, £72. During the year 1870-1 the allowances were as follow :—Hon W. Fox, travelling allowances, £B4; hon J. Vogel, ditto, £IBO ; hon W. Gisborne, ditto, £lOl, mid rent allowance, £150; hon D. M'Lean, travelling allowance, £3ll, and Tent allowance, £B7; hon Henry Seweli, travelling allowance, £53, and rent allowance, £45 ; hon I. E. Featherson, travelling allowance (mission to England), £1777 ; hon F. D. Bell w.u/o), £IBOO For the financial year IS7I-2, the allowances were : —Hon W. £ox, travelling allowance, £162 ; hon J. Vogel (ditto), £HO62 (composed as follows : —Mission to England, £2224 ; mission to Australia, £507 ;in Wellington, £271); hon D. M'Lean, travelling allowance, £514. rent allowance, £225; hon F. D. Bell, rent allowance, £75; hon W. Gisborne, rent allowance, £150; travelling allowance, £4 ; hon W. Itecves, travelling allowance, £236; lion Mr Ormond, travelling allowance, £l3l. Total for the year, £4561. The total amount of allowances to Ministers was £1(530 made up as follows : Hon J. Vogel, travelling allowance, £440; hon D. M'Lean (ditto), £195, rent allowance, £110; lion W. H. Reynolds, travelling allowance (conference in Sydney), £384, other travelling expenses, £7, and tent allowance, £102; hon Wi Parata, travelling allowance, £75; hon J. Bathgate, (ditto), £l6, and rent allowance, £108; hon F. D. Bell, rent allowance, £6O; hon H. J. Miller, (ditto), £l7; hon J. Hall, (ditto), £2B; hon H. Scwell, (ditto), £l2; hon E. W. Stafford (ditto), £l2: hon T. B. Gillies, £l2; hon O. Curtis (ditto), £l2; hon W. Fitzherbert, (ditto), £l2; hon G. M. O'Rorke (ditto), £7B, and travelling allowance, £6 ; hon Dv Pollen, rent allowance, £8 ; hon J. D. Ormond, travelling allowance, £217 ; hon D. Reid (ditto), £65; hon E. Richardson (ditto), £206, and rent allowance, £9O; hon W. Reeves, travelling allowances, £157, The total amount of allowances during the four years is £13,547.
