WESTLAND A PROVINCE.
The Grey mouth Star says:—''So Westland has been raised to an equal level with its northern, southern, and eastern neighbors, by being called no longer a County, but a full-fledged Province, with the right to electors of selecting their own Superintendent. Our telegraphic news states that the Westland Province Bill passed the second reading without opposition, and as the third reading is usually a matter of form, and as there is not any likelihood of the Bill meeting with opposition in the Upper house, it many fairly be taken as having become law. The only matter to be regretted in connection with the step is, that the boundary line was not made to extend further north, in order that the whole of the West Coast Goldfields might have been placed under one Government.
