August 9. Parliament was prorogued by commission on the sth July. The Quean thanked both Houses for making prompt provision for the Duke of Edinburgh, and trusts his approaching marriage with the Grand Duchess of Russia will prove a new tie of friendship between the two councountries. Her Majesty congratulates the country on the success of Sir Bartle Erere's mission for the abolition of the slave trade at Zanzibar. A commercial treaty has been concluded with France, and the treaties for the extradition of criminals have been arranged with Italy, Denmark, Sweden, and Brazil. Negotiations on the same subject are going on with other States. Her Majesty thanks the Commons for their liberality in enabling the Government to meet promptly the Geneva award. The revenue is fully answering the expectations of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, although trade is slack. The general condition of the people continues to exhibit evidence of improvement.
