(FROM OUR OWN COKRESPOtfDENT.) WELLINGTON. July 28. Mr o'Conor arranged for a meeting of the Westport delegates with the Nelson members this afternoon. They have unanimously agreed to accompany the deputation to confer with the Government on Wednesday at noon. Everything is progressing satisfactorily. Articles in to-day's Independent and Post are both favorable to the views of the Westport community as expressed by the delegates. [ Anglo-AustralianPress Telegraph Agency] WELLINGTON. In the House on Thursday last the Premier said the Secretay of State was opposed to the establishment of a Hoyal Colonial Mint. In reply to Mr Bradshaw the Premier said the Government had no intention this session, of introducing any bill authorising mining for gold or silver on private property. The Government recognised the importance of the question, but desired to watch the working of the Victorian system. In reply to Mr Murray, the Minister of Works said, the practice at Home was to invite tenders for railway materials, and the lowest tender was accepted. The Education Bill has been read a first time. On the motion of Mr Atkinson, correspondence was read from Mr Finni more, of Wanganui, to Mr Haughton, proposing a collusion, for the purpose of speculating in Government land. In reply to Mr Bradshaw, Mr O'Bourke said the Government considered the yield of gold the best v test with regard to apportioning rewards for gold discovery. July 28. The members of the deputation have arrived to confer with the Government regarding the Mount Rochfort Coalmine Eailway, and Buller River Protective Works. DTJNEDIN. July 28. In the champion race for fifty pounds aside, between Drake and Fox, the latter won the huudred and fifty and hundred yards races. The third event was not run. Fifteen huudred person present. AUCKLAND. July 28. Fiji advices state that tho chiefs Manfu and Tincakau have seceded from the Government. It is believed the Fiji Government will be successful. Captain Daggett, of the schooner is reported to have been killed by
Hawnare natives. Cakobau took over one thousand prisoners of war.
