FORGERIES ON PARISIAN BANKS.
Immediately following the raid on the Bank of England a successful coup has been made on several Persian banks. The telegraph employees are suspected of complicity with the thieves. After the arrival of the first telegram cautioning the bankers, nothing more was seen of the operators. The first swoop was made upon the Helvetian Bank, which was duly advertised by the firm of M. M. Salomon, Oppenheim, aud Co., of Cologne, that they were to honor a draft for 50,000f, presented by M. Yon Rhaadeu. A fashionably dressed man, making a large display of sparkliug diamonds, duly turned up in the course of the day and presented the draft for payment. The cashier gave him 20,000 francs, and he left, promising to return soon for the balance. A like process was gone through at the house of Messrs Kothschild for 50,000 francs, which was paid at once, everything being found en regie. At the Bank of Discount M. Von Uliaaden was a claimant for 100,000 francs, but only drew 75,000 francs, as he " did not require more at the moment." The Bank of Alsace was advised also, but M. Yon Khaaden did not present himself there. The fraud was discovered by the well known financier M. Fould. The evening before he was advised by the Cologne house to pay to Von Khaaden 90,000 francs, and the order was confirmed next morning. A slight error led to the discovery of the plot. The letter to M. Fould was not numhered correctly, and he telegraphed to Cologne to make enquiries. Yon Rhaaden was at once denounced as a swindler, but he did not again present himself at any of the bank counters, and has hitherto eluded the vigilance of the French detectives up to the present time.
