The p.s. Wallace left Nelson at 8.15 a.m on Sunday, and arrived here at 11 a.m. yesterday. She had fine weather at starting, but about noon on Sunday very heavy weather from the southward prevailed, and it was necessary to run back for some hours. After that the threatening storm moderated, and the trip down was continued with a favoring wind and light sea.

The Greymouth Star says:—During the past few days the sea has been making rapid encroachments ou the South Spit, Greymouth, and with a north-westerly wind now, followed by a fresh, it would not be surprising to see a new channel formed much to the south of the present one.
