The Independent; gives as a rumor that the Superintendent of Canterbury intends in the House to raise the question of the administration of Public Works policy by the Provincial Governments. It is understood that the Mining Amendment Bill (new Goldfields Bill) will include provisions for mining upon private property. The Schiehaliion and Haleione, from Londou, have been signalled. The Haleione is quarantined ; sickness aboard. DUN ED IK July 14. The twelfth July was celebrated by an Orangemens' dinner. Fifteen thousand eggs have been obtained from brown trout in the Shag river. William Duffy, for rape, was sentenced to flogging and imprisonment. GEEYTOWN. July 14. Michael Troy, shepherd, has been found dead by the roadside on Tuesday with a bottle of grog by his side. (Highly interesting telegram! !) CHEISTCHURCH. July 14 A man died on Friday from exposure on the West Coast road, name unknown at present. GEAHAMSTOWN. July 14. No Orange demonstrations on Saturday, but a picnic excursion to-day. The only colors displayed were a few orange and blue rosettes.
