The latter proceeds to Melbourne as A.D.C. to Governor Bowen. The Governor was sworn in on Monday, and received addresses. A public holiday was obsorved, and atorehlight procession took place at night, and the shipping fired rockets. The Governor telegraphed his desire from Nelson that there should be no formal procession. WANGANTJI. June 19. A smart shock of earthquake was felt yesterday. There is a deadlock in the Borough Council. The Council broke up because tho Mayor refuses to accede to the unanimous vote of the Council, requesting him to resign his appointment in the Provincial Executive.

A motion, withdrawing the twentyfive per cent on local taxation, granted to Tiinaru, has been negatived. DUNEDIN. June 19. The result of the Superintendency election up to the present is—Macandrew, 2840; Gillies, 1817. Several more returns to come in, but the final result will not be altered. Wheat is selling freely at ss; oats in good demand at 3s lOd to 4s Id. AUCKLAND. June 19. The New Zealand Insurance Company has declared a divideud of 10 per cent, for the half-year, besides large reservation. A charge of conspiring to defraud, against Macfarlane, Provisional Trustee in Bankruptcy, and John Lamb, miller, is proceeding. The prosecutor, M'Hattie, alleged that the defendants conspired to prove a debt of £S22 against his estate, knowing no such debt existed. There are charges of perjury laid against the same defendants. The Nyanpa has arrived from Liverpool with railway material. "WAIKATO. Juno 19. The natives are quiet. Eewi has lost all influence over the King. The probability of averting war is decreasing (?). Mackay's messenger was thrice captured by armed natives, and his life threatened. He escaped.
