EXPORTS. Per Threo Friends, for Lyttelton—l4 tons coal, order. The steamer Goahead grounded on Wednesday last going up the Wanganui river. She was laden with coal. A telegram received states that her hull has sunk below the water level. The Kennedy reached Hokitika at midnight on the 11th instant. The Albion, with the Suez mail on board, arrived at the Muff at 8 a.m. on the 11th, and left at 5 p.ni. for Dunedin. The Waipara left Wanganui on Wednesday laot. She will be followed by _ the Murray, which took in her cattle freight for this port and Greyinouth yesterday at Wanganui. We hear that the official inspection by Harbor Muster Captain Leech of the Little Wanganui river confirms the opinion of residents on the coast that an available harbor exists there for small craft, Tho mouth of the river is protected to the southward by a reef, extending outward for some distance, and at the rear a high rocky bluff" protects tho river from S.VV. gales. Tho depth of water on the bar at low tide is about four feet, increasing to a similar depth to that found on the Buller bar at high water. The channel at tho mouth is about forty-five feet wide, but widens up stream from 120 to 132 feet, and is bounded on the south bank by the rocky bluff and to the northward by a low sandy beach, backed up by flat bush covered ground, extending to the sea beach. 'Die river deepens from four feet at low water on the bar to ten feet where the current is widest, forming a rocky basin .and then shoaling again to two feet, the stream afterwards taking an abrupt turn to t>.o northward. Above the bend n wharf site is marked on the survey plans, but which is only available at high water, the depth ot water opposite thoreto at low tide being little more than a foot. The banks of tho stream are lined with dense timber, and the current seems less erratic iu its course than tho majority of West Coast rivers, there being very few traces of recent encroachment. Reference to the map of the district shows that tho Little Wanganui has few tributary streams, the only one, in fact, of any size being a small creek known as Glasseye Creek. Like the Ngakawhau it partakes more of the characteristics of a tidal inlet, except that the current is a little deeper, and the mouth of tho stream has a good natural protection. The Cynthia will most probably be relaunched to-day, and will as speedily as possiblo load up with coal for Wellington.
