BULLER COAL AND RAILWAY COMMITTEE.
The following telegram has been received by the Honorary Secretary, and is published as his Honor the Superintendent requests. A meeting of the Committee will be held, at 4 p.m. this afternoon to decide what reply shall be made thereto. " Nelson, 30th May, 1873. " J. W. Humphrey, Esq., " Westport. " To remove misapprehension which appears to exist in mind of Coal Committee as to actions of Waste Lands Board, I think it desirable to inform them that no right of any kind has been granted over any part of coal reserves since receipt of resolutions of Committee by telegram, on the 28th March.
" The prospecting license to Walker although not issued till Ist April, was granted on the 19th March, nine days previous to telegram, also before discovery at Waimangaroa, by Organ aud M'Leod, telegraphed by Warden Giles, on the 24th March, and consequently long before prospecting was directed by Dr Hector, on the 9th April. " All applications subsequent to receipt of Committee's telegram of 2Sth March, including Organ and M'Leod, and Bcotham'fl, have been and will continue for the present to bo postponed in accordance with wish of Committee "Lottor of General Government of 13th March, was replied to personally by mo to Minister of Public Works m Wellington, about 3rd April. " I request that this telegram may be published for information of people of Wostport. " Oswald Cuiitis, " Superintendent." A telegram was also received from Mr E. J. O'Conor, yesterday, having
reference to the construction of the Ngakawhau railway by the General Government, iipon receiving the guarantee otipulated by the Public "Works Act.
