In Committee the items in Provincial Council estimates were carried with no material alteration, except vote for Warden's clerk, Eeefton. and Inspector of Leases, lieef'ton, postponed with view to reduction. £2OOO has been placed on the supplementary estimates for track up Mokihiuui to Lyell. On the motion of Mr O'Conor, the petition of lieuben Waite was referred lo a Select Committee. May 26. Nelson is elated over the probability of the General Government now undertaking the West Coast Railway, and West Coast members are favorable, but the feeling of some is that in such event the £25,000 recommended for the Lyell road should be spent on the sea board.
