The deputation from tho Nelson Inland Committee returned per Albion, which sailed this afternoon. NELSON. May 19. The deputation has not received the amount of support expected. The Superintendent of Canterbury is disinclined to recommend the alienation of the Waste Lands of the Province of Canterbury for the purpose of constructing a line of railway greater in proportion than that which would run through his province. The Nelson Provincial Government has promised that tho matter should be brought on in Council. An answer will be given on Wednesday. The Hon. E. Eichardson has returned. AUCKLAND. May 19. Arrived the Vivian from Levuka. The native disturbance at Eewa continues.
The natives of three towns watched until the men of a neighboring town left; they then attacked the place, massacring fifty-seven old men, women and children, and then held a cannibal feast. The attack was made in revenge for murders committed six years ago. The white settlers are alarmed, and have armed their laborers, and are keeping watch. The differences between the Government and the Ba settlers has been decided. Captain Chapman ordered the settlers to conform to Government laws. The King's messenger at Piako, on Saturday, says the Maoris know the Government will not fight, but they will compel the Government to do so. The natives are prepared. Four hundred men will join Pakuruturu if the Government attempt to arrest murderers. Messengers, on a mission to collect arms and assistance, report that there is not a round of ammunition in the Thames magazine. The Government is advertising for tenders for a supply of an indefinite quantity of stores, for the field force at Waikato. GKAHAMSTOWN. May 19. A meeting has been held, and has appointed a provisional committee of the Native Administration Keform League. [Owing to break in line yesterday some expected Nelson telegrams did not come to hand]
