BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.

(FROM our own correspondent.) AUCKLAND. May 13. A telegram fro m Cambridge states that Mackay is taking precautions for the safety of the settlers. All the bridges are guarded and volunteers are scouring the country. A meeting at Taupo relative to the murder of Sullivan denounced the conduct of the natives, and it was agreed to write to the King urging him to deliver up the murderers, as also to the Government asking for a supply of arms as war was deemed inevitable unless the King complied. The meeting said that Purakura was instructed by the King to expel all European surveyors and workmen to beyond the confiscated territory, and that he had exceeded his instructions only by killing. Purakura pursued William Buckland, but missing him, killed the first pakeha he came across. May 15. The natives are collecting dried fish apparently in anticipation of war. Two chiefs have been sent to the Maori King with final appeal.
