DUNEDIN.
April 28. The Taranaki has not arrived. A thick fog prevails outside. The papers suggest the use of foghorns. Mr T. L. Shepherd addressed his constituents at Prybread, on Saturday. The meeting passed a vote of entire confidence.
At Arrow, a unanimous vote of want of confidence in Hallenstein was carried. At all other places Hallenstein received a vote of confidence. He said he believed the inquiry into the mystery of the Vogel Government by Mr Stafford led to the confidence instanced by Mr Stafford's purchases. The Ministry was indefinitely formed, and he could promise no support until the surroundings of the Ministry were fixed. He believed Mr Vogel had the interests of the Colony largely at heart. He said he resembled Warren Hasting's career in sacrificing districts and men for the general good. He said the Arrowtown vote resulted from selfish local views.
Mr Shepherd's sketch of the provisions of the Goldfields Consolidation Bill met with the hearty approval of his meeting.
