POST-OFFICE NEGLIGENCE.

(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sir,—As a means of remedying carelessness in the conduct of business at the Westport Post-Office, we desire to call public attention to the following fact:—

On the 30th of January last a letter was written and forwarded through post to us by a mining company at the Lyell, giving us a large order for work which was required with the least possible delay. We expected that letter, and surprised at not receiving it, made frequent appli cations at the Westport Post-Office, but could obtain there no other answer than a curt reply " nothing for you." But on Saturday last, the 29th of March, the letter was forthcoming, and it bears the Westport post-mark dated February 4th. It ha? thus been lying for more than seven weeks in the Post-Office, and we have been put to the risk of losing a valuable trade connection by the carelessness of a public servant who is neither over worked nor under paid. Writing to head quarters will be of little avail, and we do not care to take legal action for damages, but as a public duty we make the fact known. We hand you the envelope of the letter to show that it is legibly addressed.—Yours &c, Fiujjk Aio) MacFablane, Blacksmiths, Westport.
