The following are some of the details as given by the Greymouth Evening Star and Argus of the different events of the day : For the Telegraph Stakes, of 30 sovb, 1£ miles, weight for age, entrance 3 Bovs., there were four acceptances— O. M'Gee's Creeping Jenny, Webb's Prima Donna, and Walter's Yatteriua and Slandie. The non-arrival of Creeping Jenny, and the scratching of Prima Donna left the race to one stable, and Mr Walters declared to win with Yatteriua. Webtland Hurdle Handicap, of 75 sovß.; second horae to receive 15 govs, from the stakes; 2£ miles. Mr O. M'Gee's b g Dick Turpin, aeed. 9at 81b ... ... i Mr A. The racing for first place way between Gossip and Yatterina, and the former came in first by several lengths—both doing their best. The riders were—Gossip, Hughes; Yatterina, French; Envy, Jones; Harlequin, Hankins: Prima Donna, Griffiths. Hack Bace, of 15 sots ; 1 mile heats; second horse in the deciding heat to receive 3 sovs from the stake; minimum weight, Bst; entrance 1 sov j post entries. The Distbict Plate, of SO sovs; open to all horsea the property of bona fide residents in the Nelson Southwest or Westland G-oldfields, prior to the Ist January, 1873, and also owners from same date of horses entered by them ; weight for age ; 1J miles; entrance, 5 sovs. Mr Carroll's ch m Lacenfeed, aged, 9rt 41b ..; ~. ~. I Mr Skolton'a gr g Septimus, 6 y rs, Sat 41b 2 This produced a splendid race, the pair being looked together from end to end. JLaeepfeed eventually drawing •clear about a length, and finishing first by that distance, This was the concluding race >of the day, and on the whole the public had every reason to be satisfied with the sport shown. SBCOKD BAT. OoLDFIELDS HANDICAP, of 125 SOVS ; second horse to receive 20 sovs from the stake- Distance if miles. From the start, Gossip took the lead slightly, with Slander a'dose second, and Envy ■within;-a few Ifeefc keeping the others well to their wortk. At the last round Slander made ■& desperate and successful effort to get first place, finishing nearly half ahead, -with <2©ssip second, and Envy-a good third. The next 'event was the Hnn-dle (Handicap of SO sovs, about two miles. It was 'believed Royalty *was only put in to 'make 'up the 'race, and, conse•quently any -odds could be had against hg-.. Both horses took the hurdles iDick I'urpin'finishing winner -about yards ahead of Septimus. The Stewards' Handicap, of 50 •sovs;; 1£ miles. Nomination, 2 -sovs--; -acceptances, 8 sovs. Post ■entries. Mr Walter's Yattefina ... ... ... 1 Ijacenfeed ... ... ... ... .... 2 Envy 3 Mr "Wdbb's Prima Bonaa „. 4 This race was exceedingly well handicapped, as the running was closely ■contested for the full mile and a-half.
