NGAKAWHAU COAL.
An omission of a single figure in our Wellington telegram, published last issue, having reference to the gas producing powers of the Ngakawhau coal, as tested at Wellington, placed the result at the extremely low standard of 1569 feet of gas per ton. We have been since favored with a copy of the actual report thereon, which we publish to prevent any further misconception. It shows just ten thousand feet per ton more than is mentioned in the telegram received. Wellington, New Zealand. March 14, 1872.
W. Seed Esq., My Dear Sir, —The trial of the bag of Ngakawhau coal you gave me gives an exceedingly good result. Weight of coal tried, equal to 182 pounds, gave 940 cubic feet of gas. Cubic feet of gas per ton equal to 11569. Illuminating power 22 to 25 candles. Coke, per ton, 19 cwt. (Signed) J. B. Geoboe. Engineer and Manager Wellington Gas Company, Limited.
