Result left Westportfor Mokihinui <on the Ist instant at 2 p.m., arriving off the flbar just before dai'k, and got bearings of the channel, entered the river about 9.50 p.m., landed cargo, and left about midnight for the Karamea; arrived off the river and crossed the tar at noon on the :2nd, landed cargo belonging to Mr Castles, who has opened a store there. During the • afternoon some half-dozen miners came in for provisions, who report several others prospecting up the river, and at Fenian Creek. They seemed satisfied with their prospects, and were spending money freely. They expect their mates from the Anatori shortly, per the ketch Mary, or overland. The owner of the latter vessel has opened a store at the Karamea. where he intends settling after leaving the Anatori. Left 'Karamea on the .2nd, at midnig-.t, for the Ngakawhau, arrived off the bar on the '3rd, ■ and entered the river about noon; proceeded up to the coal wharf and loaded for Westport ; left Ngakawhau on the 4th at 1 a.m., and arrived here before breakfast. The Karamea bar had a depth of at least 12ft at high water when we were there. Experienced fine weather and smooth water " throughout the trip. The s.s. St. Kilda came in on Wednesday morning last from Wanjranui, and landed her freight of cattle, sheep, and pigs, at the South Spit, all in excellent condition; there ■ having been no loss on the run down.
