LYELL.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT) March 4. A gloom has been cast over the ininhabitants of the Lyell district through the death of Andrew Todd. He died on the 25th February, and was buried on the afternoon of the same day. He was highly respected in this district, and I can confidently say no man more so. He was an old resident in the Lyell, and well-known to be the poor man's friend. His re-
mains were followed to the cemetery every person about the district. In the absence of a clergyman the burial service was read by Mr Broad. jyialoney's prbspectmg'ci&im is lookr first class, and the shareholders re made arrangements to have 30 tons crushed by the Alpine mpany's battery, and : aT© now lily engaged preparing to get out The Break o' Day Company halve m prospecting their ground, and covered seven distinct payable ders, -which proves the ground uable beyond doubt. Che Mauria and Monte Christo also getting out first class ne. The Lyell 'Greek Company (which a fair to be one one df the best ims in the district) is on payable d, it having been struck On both !s of the claim. Work is just now a standstill as the claim is about to registered under the Act. Che 'Oriental Company are still gresßing with their shaft, and cut 3Ugh three or four more but i, leaders. They are also about to r t jster under the Act. | Yesterday afternoon O'Brien rind I Blair struck on a very rich leader in I their shaft at a depth of 27ft. I have pot ascertained the size, but have keen some excellent specimens from it. [They are old identities about the tyell, having worked for small wages lor some time, but now they firmly rielieve the are m for a good thing—a veal homeward bound claim, and have Scully made up their minds, when the Hclaim is worked out to take their departure across the briny sea and settle •down in Wodlloomooloo.
