In the matter of "The Municipal Corporation Act, 1867." and in the matter of the Inhabitants of the Town of Westport, in the Province of Nelson, on the West Coast of the Colony of New Zealand. To Hia Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealandand its Dependencies, aud Vice-Admiral of the same. The Humble Petition of the undersigned inhabitant Householders of the Town of Westport, in the Prorince of Nelson, on the West Coast of the Colony jjf New Zealand : Showeth, — 1. That the Town of Westport contains a population of inhabitant householders of not less than two hundred aud fifty. 2. That the said Town of Westport lies wholly within one and the same' Province, and neither wholly or in part comprised within the limits of any other city, town, or place mentioned in the first column of the First Schedule to the said Act, or of any city, town, or place incorporated, or reputed to be incorporated, under the provisions of any other Act. 3. That the said Town of Westport does not exceed in area nine square miles, and no one point within the area is distant six miles from any other point therein. 4. That the said Town of Westport is situate on the Buller River, and is bounded on the Northward by the high watermark of the South Pacific Ocean. On the Eastward, partly by a straight line, bearing 155 deg. 53 min., drawn from the aforesaid high watermark in the direction of Domett street, to the North-east corner of the Municipal Reserve; thence by Domett street 155 deg. 53 min., six hundred and twenty five links, one hundred • and twenty five links, three thousand and seventy-five links, one hundred and twenty-five links, and seven thousand eight hundred and fifteen links. On the Southward partly by Daniell street, 2-15 deg. 53 min., three thousand eight hundred links, one hundred and twenty - five links, aud eleven hundred links, partly by a continuation of Palmerston, street, 155 deg. 53 min., five hundred links, and partly by a line between Sections' 7a and 5 to the banks of the River Buller, bearing 245 deg. 53 min. And on the Westward by the banks of the River Buller to the northern boundary as given above. 5. That your Petitioners believe the Town of Westport, and the comfort aud prosperity of the inhabitants, would greatly improve by an extension of the benefits of the Municipal Corporations Act to their town. Wherefore your Petitioners humbly pray that your Excellency will be pleased to declare the Town of Westport under the provisions of " The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867."
