On Saturday the steamers Charles Edward, Kennedy, and St. Kilda arrived in the port, and river side trade was for the • time more than usually active. The Charles Edward left at noon -with a large number of passengers for Nelson; and the .-Kenuedy-went-south in the evening. The St. Kilda, with cattle from Wanganui, had •• a prolonged trip, being compelled, for the safety of her freight, to run for shelter. Fortunately she landed her freight without the loss of a single head. The s.a, Go-Ahoad, which proceeded to : Sydney a short time ago to undergo a thorough overhaul, has been refitted with new engines, .and it was expected that she would take her departure from thence for Waitara about the 21th December. Her -old engines have been sold and realised a high price. M'Meckan Blackwood, and •Co., have purchased the steamship Otngo. She left Hong Kong, on the 3rd instant, for Melbourne, under canvas, in charge of Captain Underwood. We believe she is intended to be employed in the intercolonial trade between Melbourne and New Zealand, a trade in which she wan so favorably known a few years back.
