Woodman— The accused arraigned for having on the third day of December Inst, violently assaulted Kate McCarthy by striking her on the head with a frying, pan and inflicting a grievous bodily wound, pleaded guilty. The complainant was too ill to attend and the depositions taken before the "Resident Magistrate's Court were read, uuder the provisions of the Offences Persons Act andagaiust sec. 72 of the Justice of tho Peace Act; in lieu of personal evidence. Tho accused was sentenced to two years penal servitude.
