The grain market is inactive. Wheat quite out; flour, £l4; oats easier, 2s 4d. The dry weather is causing serious apprehension for the cropa. Oats on light lands are even now almost past hope. A little rain fell to-day, but quite insufficient for requirements. The wheat crop generally looks well, and though the crop will probably be light, the quality is sure to be good. Dairy produce is plentiful. Butter, to sd; new cheese abun.lant. 4*d. DUNEDIN. Dec. 17. The banks have raised the price of gold sixpence an ounce. The M'Ausland's passengers are admitted to pratique, and those by the Palmerston will be admitted on the 23rd.

The January Races are expected to be a great success. TJreadstuffs are firm. Canterbury wheat, Os 3d to 6s 6d ; oats, 2d 9d to 3s ; flour, £l4 to £l6. HOKITIKA. Dec. 17. The markets continue depressed. Flour, provincial, £ls 10s ; oats, 3s Id to 3s 3d; chaff, £9 to £lO ; bran, Is 2d to Is 3d ; cheese, 6d ; butter, 6d; large supplies are to hand of hams and bacon, which are selling at Sd to 9d, and in demand; potatoes, old, £6; new, £l2 to £ls.
