COLONIAL JUBILEE.
The Melbourne ' Argus' on the proposal to hold a musical festival in Melbourne : —Mr Ooppin has given us a rough outline of the great musical festival which he has undertaken to organise at the end of this year and the beginning of next. The intercolonial musical festival is to consist of seven musical entertainments, given, as nearly as circumstances will permit, upon the model of the Boston (U.S.) Jubilee. These will take place on Thursday evening, 26th December (Boxing night programme) ; Friday evening, 27th December (Victorian night) ; Saturday, 28th December (in the afternoon for juveniles, in the evening the New South Wales night) ; Monday evening, 30th December (Tasmanian night) ; Tuesday evening, 31st December (South Australian night) ; Wednesday evening, Ist Jan. 1873 (New Tears night). MrCoppin will, we understand, endeavor to obtain talent of a representative character from each of the colonies above named. At present the local names connected with this great undertaking are those of Signor Biscaccianti, who has been retained as acting manager; Signor Giorza, musical disector and organist ; and Signori Susini and Cecchi, whose names appear upon a list of vocalists which will doubtless soon grow to a greater strength. Signo Giorza has been commissioned to compose a Christmas cantata, and an Australasian jubilee medal is now being struck for presentation to the ladies and gentlemen who assist at the first intercolonial musical festival given in the Australian colonies. It will be seen from the foregoing that this is an undertaking of no ordinary magnitude.
