The Maid of Erin was towed out by the Charles Edward on Saturday, at 5 p.m., and with a good breeze abaft, quickly made a good offing. She is bound for Clarence River to ship maize for Melbourne ; and on her arrival at the latter port will have quick despatch lor the Buller.
The s.s. St. Kilda, Captain J. Flowerday in command, arrived from Wanganui, on Sunday morning after a fair average passage; landing her cargo of sheep and cattle at the Spit yesterday, in good condition and without loss. She left again for Wanganui last evening, having first taken in some ten or twelve cords of firewood for steam purposes, no coal being obtainable 'here, soth withstanding the much vaunted 3iipply to bo had from the Ngakawhau. It is really high time some effective measures were taken to place the coal trade or; a more satisfactory footing-. The St. Kilda, should have had no difficulty in shipping a full carpfo of coal, instead of clearing out with barely sufficient to get up steam.
