WESTPORT CHRISTMAS SPORTS.

At a meeting held at the Post-office Hotel last evening, Mr Robertson in tho chair, the following business was transacted.

The Chairman read the advertisement convening the meeting for the purpose of organising races and other sports for the forthcoming Christmas holidays, and suggested, briefly but forcibly, the expediency of taking speedy action.

The Treasurer of the Jockey Club, Mr Gilmer, explained that the papers' and books of the club had been left in charge of Mr Mirfin, and that he wouhl telegraph for them. He could state from memory, that there was no balance at present to the credit of the Club funds.

It was proposed and carried, by show of hands, that a committee should be appointed for canvassing the town and neighborhood for subscriptions, and generally to carry out the purposes of the meeting. The following gentlemen were then nominated and elected in the usual manner.

Messrs Sheehan, J. Simpson, Brown, E. M'Farlaue, Koehe, M'ELenna' Hiding, Gibson, T. Jones, G. Clark! J. Coir, J. Graves, Dragbicavich, J." Hughes, Eobertson, J. Seaton and B. Cunningham, with power to add to their number.

Mr Brown proposed :—" That Mr Gilmer should be elected treasurer."

Seconded by Mr M'Henna, and carried.

Mr Gilmer proposed:—"That Mr Edward Ings should be elected secretary."

Seconded by Mr Gibson,and carried. . It was decided that the first meeting of the committee shall be held on Tues-

day evening next, and in tlie meantime the gentlemen nominated on the committee, but absent from tlio present meeting, should bo waited on and asked to then attend. It was further resolved that the events to be arranged tor should eoine off on the 20th and 27th December next. A subscription list was opened, and subscriptions entered amounting to £25. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
